417Coffee Disloyalty Card

What do the following cities have in common?

London, England
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Seattle, Washington
Springfield, Missouri

They all have a coffee culture worthy of a Coffee Disloyalty Card!  And here it is!

How does the 417Coffee Disloyalty Card work?

We have selected eight of the best coffee shops in the 417 Missouri Ozarks.  Most of them are in Springfield, but one of them is in the Branson area. This is how it works:

  1. Get a card.
You can get one of the limited edition 417Coffee Disloyalty Cards at any of the participating coffee shops.
  2. Buy a qualifying drink from each featured coffee shop.
Visit any of the shops and purchase a qualifying drink (we’ll explain that below).  Some of the shops will be offering special perks when you present the disloyalty card, so be sure to ask, and make sure you get your card marked to show you’ve visited that shop.  Visit all 8 shops to complete the card.
  3. Get a free drink.
When you’re done, you can visit any one of the 8 shops and get any qualifying drink for free.
  4. Turn in your card for a chance to win.
When you get the free drink, write your name, phone and email address on the back of the card and turn it in for entry into giveaways from 417Coffee.

All of this is subject to the legal stuff, of course, just to make sure everybody’s being a good citizen of the 417 coffee culture.

If you use GoWalla, we’ve also we created a 417 Disloyalty Card GoWalla trip that you can follow and check in with as you pursue completion of your 417Coffee Disloyalty Card.

What drinks count for a Disloyalty Punch?

In order to qualify for a punch on your disloyalty card, you should buy any of the following drinks:

  • brewed coffee (preferably single origin instead of a blend),
  • iced coffee (not frozen coffee),
  • a traditional espresso drink, which would include:  espresso, Americano, macchiato, cappuccino, traditional mocha, or traditional latte;
  • any other drink that each specific coffee shop deems appropriate as an expression of their shop’s dedication to good coffee.

This disloyalty card program is designed to give each shop a chance to show their dedication to making a solid coffee drink worth coming back for, so we’re trying to avoid all the over-sugared, whipped cream drinks. To take part in this project, you need to be drinking the real stuff.

Why a disloyalty card?

The idea of a disloyalty card started in London, England. 2009 World Barista Champion Gwilym Davies runs a coffee shop called Prufrock Coffee.  He put together a card that encourages coffee fans to try the coffee at eight of the best coffee shops in East London. Once they have visited all eight shops and had them mark off the disloyalty card that Gwilym produced, they can visit Prufrock Coffee and he will make them a free drink.

Since the first day we heard about Gwilym’s disloyalty card at 417Coffee, we have been trying to figure out a way to reproduce the idea here in the 417 Missouri Ozarks. We have a good collection of quality coffee in the area, and we wanted to figure out a way to highlight some of the better coffee in Springfield and the surrounding area. After lots of discussion with coffee shop owners, we’re proud to sponsor the 417Coffee Disloyalty Card to get coffee drinkers to get out and about the area to try the different shops and compare and contrast the drinks each coffee shop features.

The Legal Stuff

The 417Coffee Disloyalty Card is designed to help coffee fans get out of their regular coffee shops, frequent other shops, try new drinks, and spread the coffee culture throughout the 417 coffee community. It’s not designed to be a discount program or a giveaway program. So here are some ground rules:

  • Use only one card at a time. Complete one card in total before starting a new card.
  • Don’t take advantage. Don’t load up on cards and visit one shop over and over to get a discount or perk they’re offering.
  • Don’t counterfeit. Don’t photocopy or otherwise reproduce the cards without the express permission of 417Coffee
  • Don’t lie. Don’t attempt to do anything fraudulent with the card, such as marking that you’ve been to a shop when you haven’t. Only approved marks/punches/stamps created by the approved staff of the specific shop in question in response to your purchase of a qualified drink will be considered of value.
  • Don’t cheat or steal. Don’t try to use a card to get more than one (1) free drink. Only one (1) free drink will be allowed per completed card.
  • Be kind. Don’t berate, don’t gripe, don’t complain, don’t annoy or otherwise bemoan the card, the process, or the shops involved.
  • 417Coffee and each shop involved in the 417Coffee Disloyalty Card reserves the right to refuse to punch/mark/stamp your card or serve you a free drink if they, in their own discretion, determine that you have done something inappropriate.
  • 417Coffee makes no guarantees as to the items to be given away or timing of giveaways or delivery of items related to the 417Coffee Disloyalty Card. Be happy with what you get and when you get it.
