Heroes Coffee to offer coffee classes

Heroes Coffee Company in downtown Springfield, Missouri is offering educational coffee classes to the public.  Starting tonight, Heroes Coffee owners Tim and Amy Ferguson and their team will launch a monthly schedule of classes for those wanting to deepen their coffee knowledge and skills.

Tonight’s class, titled Manual Brewing Methods, will cover the basics of brewing coffee by hand.  The course will include instruction on brewing using a Chemex, a French press, and cold brew methods.  The class costs $12, and those in attendance will receive an 8 oz. bag of Heroes coffee.  In addition, manual brewing equipment will be on sale at a discounted price for those attending the class.  The class is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Heroes Coffee Company roastery located at 401 North Boonville in downtown Springfield, Missouri.  To sign up, visit the class registration page on the Heroes website.

Courses to follow are as follows, and all course cost $12 apiece and are scheduled at the Heroes roastery from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.:

  • September 18, 2012 — Course title: “Coffee 101” — Learn about the background of coffee, the roasting process, different flavor profiles, proper brewing methods and the answers to some frequently asked questions about coffee.  Also participate in a cupping of some of their favorite coffee origins.
  • October 16, 2012 — Course title: “Home Barista Basics” —  Learn how to use a home espresso machine.  If you don’t have one yet, they’ll give you their recommendations on which machines work the best and also show you some fun ways to make other coffee drinks from home such as cafe au laits using a simple handheld frother.
  • November 27, 2012 — Course title: “Holiday Recipes & Gift Ideas” — Learn some amazing easy coffee recipes to make from home for your holiday parties.  And  if you’re struggling to find the perfect gift for that coffee lover on your list, they will offer some fabulous ideas and gift options to choose from.
  • January 8, 2013 — Course title: “Home Barista Basics” — Similar to the October 2012 course, but designed to offer some quick training to those who received a home espresso machine for Christmas.
